Meet My Bobsled Team

Bobsledding is one of the world's most exciting sports. Not only is it fast-paced, the level of athleticism required and the camaraderie that develops among the athletes that make up a bobsled team is incredible. I am lucky to have become involved in what some call, "The Champagne of Thrills" back in 1997 and it has been a wild ride ever since.

After training and competing for years I was the head coach for the U.S. Adaptive Bobsled Team, an experience that changed my life and history as we worked to develop this sport for Paralympic athletes. But coaching also brought out the bobsled-bug again and through the generous support of many people and companies we were able to purchase a new two-man bobsled which we call, The Phoenix after the legendary phoenix bird. Why? Because our team runs on hope.

Hope: this small word can mean the difference between life and death. From international medical companies to small town political candidates, hope is a core value that we all strive to possess and share. I began The Athlete Outreach Project to spread hope to those who need it. I wanted to reach teens contemplating suicide, cancer patients worrying about their future, drug addicts trying to get clean, kids struggling with bullies, veterans dealing with the pains of war, parents who have lost their jobs, teachers and medical personnel who are overwhelmed, and others who need encouragement, support and love. We've all had days when the future felt dim, but a caring soul took the time to help us feel strong again.

That is what the The Phoenix Bobsled is all about: giving people strength to believe in tomorrow. It is a symbol of hope, a beacon to inspire in ways that build others up.

And you can help us make this all happen. Through your financial support we can encourage kids to stay in school, individuals in the correctional system to change their lives, cancer patients and wounded veterans to keep fighting, plus train in our sport at the same time.

In addition, by supporting The Phoenix project, you can help The Athlete Outreach Project increase its ability to advocate for countless causes, organizations, charity groups, events, clubs, schools, and hospitals and support athletes train in this exciting winter event.

From $1 to $10,000, every donation helps. Help us make a difference. Help us spread hope.
